Discwasher New version vs Old version

I had a serious question .... I recently have repaired my old classic Discwasher as I had to contact cement the part with the fabric back onto the handle. The repair was successful but made me think what I could do if I really needed a new one someday. I was wondering if the newer ones are any good. They look a little different and the material is tan instead of the classic black.

I have a record store here who sells them new for $14.50 and just wondered if I would be happy with it. does it work as good as the old one is my question.

I make my own solution so I really do not care about the D4 stuff that comes with it.

Well golly ..... thanks for that. I won;t be suckered into it then. I reglued mine like that guy did and used industrial strength contact cement. My whole fabric thing fell off the wood but is fixed now.

Damned shame this is garbage as it would have been nice to get.

So .... what other makers make a good one you can buy today? There must be something that works.

Crosley makes a brush that uses a directional pile, exactly like the old Discwashers.

Barring that, there are fabric lint brushes with the same dirctional pile that will work in a pinch.

Or you could try to find a used vintage D3 or D4 brush in good condition on eBay. That's what I did!

Mobile Fidelity makes a very good brush with replacement fabric stips available. I use one with very good results. Can be used wet(saturated) for agressive cleaning or slightly damp for most other cleaning needs.

So far this is the best one I have seen posted in this thread. THIS is what I want, costs more but that is what I want. I don't want to have to buy replacement pads, I don;t want straight bristle brushes. I want this directional type fiber that lifts stuff out of the grooves and can withstand being heavily went for deep cleaning.

I fixed my Discwasher, mine is one I bought in the 70s and it still works but I wonder how much life it has left and I want something like this to replace it.

I can affirm the quality of the Crosley brush. I bought one a few months ago and I have been very happy with it.

I picked up a classic old 70s Discwasher on eBay today for $2.99

Now I will use the one I had to repair for heavy cleaning duties and the newer old classic vintage one as a light duty regular use dust remover.

I used the eBay search lowest priced buy it now first and there it was. Even comes with the original box.

I am happy. This is THE one coming in the mail, looks ok to me as you can see all sides and it isn;t ripped or split and looks pretty darned good for about $3, spose I'll know for sure when it comes but it looks good here.

I use an old spritzer that had eyeglasses cleaner, to dampen my D4s. Works beautifully.

We old spritzers have to stick together lol. I do the same thing ... funny how common sense tends to lend itself to people who know what they are doing.

here is my old 70s one I have owned and used since the 70s. it finally split so i got the new one I posted above. I should be good for another 30 years eh?

I'll use this one for very heavy cleanings where I really need to soak it with cleaner after my hand washing method. I'll just use the new one for light duty regular use.

yes I used a stapler and popped staples in there to tighten the fabric back up and it works on records still beautifully.

Can this material be purchased? That would be great if so, I could then just attach a new fabric and glue it to the wood handle. There is a slab of wood that the cloth is glued on and then that is glued to the wood handle. i have already had mine apart as the wood slab let go a while back as well. Industrial contact cement fixed that properly. I masked off the wood so glue would not spray on it obviously.

Well my new vintage $2.99 old one came in from an eBay purchase.

I'm floored ... MINT. The pictures above are of that very one. The fiber material really came to life when I got it wet, it had been not used obviously for probably a good 10+ years from my guess. It was thirsty.

Cleaned a record and it was magnificent. The wood finish is a nice gloss as well, in the pictures here it was dull from not being used.

Very cool find, maybe my best eBay audio get besides the Starcastle s/t MINT LP for 99 cents.

Today I noticed something between 2 different vintage Discwashers I own.

They are both different in a couple of ways, one being that the height of the brush surface is different between the two and also the color of the fabric under the pile is as well. The length of the hair on the brush seems different as are the tightness of the rows and the color of material underneath of which is one is gray material and the other red.

The actual height of the cleaning surface is also different, the red material one being higher up in the air than the gray materialed version like the slab of wood the fabric is glued to is not as thick.

I found two photos to show the two versions I have, if anyone can shed light on possible year differences that would be great.
