Crossout matrix number: Aqualung JT

I have a copy of Jethro Tull's Aqualung and it would appear to be an early press; the vinyl is really quite heavy, the cover is matt well put together, and I bought it second hand with the supporting tour guide (of the aqualung tour with Steeleye Pan). So it's not inconcievable to assume it was bought at the same time.

Anyhow the problem is that the matrix numbers are a bit odd. The label has:

chr1044
ILPS.9145-A

on the A side, and the same on the B side with a B instead of an A.

However on the wax itself, says

ILPS.9145 A-1U & ILPS.9145 B-3U

but these values have a been scratched out and replaced by:

CHR1044 A-1U & CHR1044 B-3U

Which are written by hand rather than stamped.
I am just curious to know what has happened here.

Aqualung was first released in the UK on Island with Pink Rim labels. Then Chrysalis got their label up and running beginning with the Green label design. I think you have a Green label of this. These used old Island stampers (the good ones) and they had the CHR numbers added on on your copy.

Thanks, I thought it might be something like that, I am glad these are good stamps as I am not intending to sell this record :D, although the previous owner wasn't very caring of the record (it is G/VG) it still plays great.

When you say pink rim do you mean the records with the work island with the palm tree. Like this

Yup. It's the plant reusing not stampers but mothers. I've done this when a record company changes distributors and the album numbers are changed..
