Well I must concur with the Classic Records 200 g 33 1/3 RPM version as being spectacular! Ny non-audiophile brother heard it and his jaw dropped. Sadly it has greatly increased in price since I purchased it (from $29.99 to $99.99 now) and here's a link just to look.

I wish I had seen the Classic Records when they were 30 or so. I did get the 40th Anniversary set when it was first available. The album is so good, I nearly had tears in my eyes. As a matter of fact it was only a week ago that I even looked at the cds and played the Extras. I know it is pricey but Wow!
Next up are the 5.1 versions which I will try out in a few weeks.

I have various versions of "Aqualung" in various formats. The 40th anniversary double CD, remastered and remixed by Steve Wilson, is definitely the way to go, as stated by others above. The DTS 5.1 surround mix is crazy good, but the only (legal) way to get it is to buy the expensive 40th anniversary "collector's edition" box set.

Previous to the recent Steve Wilson "Aqualung" projects, the DCC remaster by Steve Hoffman from Ian Anderson's personal master tape reigned supreme. Some - not me - might still prefer it to the new 40th anniversary releases. I have the DCC Gold CD but have heard that the DCC vinyl pressing was as good or better.

My wife just bought me the 40th anniversary set for Father's Day (I couldn't pull the trigger on $140 myself!). This is really an awesome set. I listened to the vinyl and DTS versions back to back. The vinyl blew me away. The richness and punch was extraordinary. The DTS is very good, but I have to say I enjoy the vinyl better. The stero CD is definately a clearer, stronger mix than my "standard issue" CD from 5-6 years ago. I don't have Blue Ray, so I haven't heard that one yet.

Did anyone see Jethro Tull Live at the Isle of Wight Festival from 1970 which was broadcast on Sky Arts last week? I recorded it and managed to watch it on Saturday. What a wonderful show, which included an early live performance of My God and an interview with Ian Anderson who talked about the show, songs and his flute playing. Aqualung and other Tull magic has been playing all weekend!
