Pretty much what Dan has listed. Good stuff.

Interesting to note that a certain Mancunian Beatles tribute band has only had one mention so far.....

Here's what was the best of my times in the 90's:
Best "local band" meaning Oregon - Hazel, especially their first album Toreador of Love
Also:
Beastie Boys
Soundgarden
Man or Astroman?
The Mono Men
Primal Scream
Melvins
Earth
The Untamed Youth
King Black Acid
New Kingdom
The Greyboy Allstars
Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys
Red Hot Chili Peppers (who went through quite a transformation recording with Rick Rubin)
Johnny Cash (see RHCP note)
I know it's only rock & roll, but I like it.

Arc Angels ~ debut (1992)

This album was only available in CD in North America. I feel lucky to have a german import on vinyl.

Check out Arc Angels on Austin City Limits 8)

i have their most credible 2 albums, which i am holding on to, in order to fund the purchase of records that will get played!

Another vote for Ozric Tentacles and Shpongle ...

Also, in a different (and more obscure) genre ... Field of the Nephilim's LP 'Elizium'. Perhaps one of the best goth rock albums of all time.

Talking of which, can anyone comment on the recent Elizium 180g reissue? My old LP has seen better days, but I'm hesitant to get spendy on the 180g if it's not from the original masters or suffers from the non-fill problem. From a non mainstream label I don't know what to expect...

Morphine, of course!!!! The late Mark Sandman's band had some truly beautiful music.

Also, Radiohead's best work (in my opinion) is from the 90's and Smashing Pumpkins.

Cure For Pain was a great record. On a side note, there is a just released documentary on Mark Sandman called Cure For Pain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PSZ_4Xn7lo

Sad that he is no longer around.

For me, the 90's will always be the beginning of the pop-tart era, but there were a few great bands.

The Living End
The White Stripes
Massive Attack
The Prodigy
Rage Against The Machine
The Gits
Millencolin
Pennywise

Alot of great hip hop came out in the early 90's also.

Lps were pressed in small quantities for most albums during the CD's heyday, and '45' singles were still needed for jukeboxes... though they were difficult for the average consumer to obtain. One had to befriend a few jukebox jobbers to get them.

The quality of most '90s records is surprisingly great.
