@citizenarcane

I've just been on a googleathon :oops:

Just wanted to get the chronology right, seems I first saw Jon Luc Ponty in 1973 with Frank Zappa - seen here rehearsing for their Sydney concert, I saw them in Brisbane.

Then again in 1974 with John Mclaughlin in Brisbane - YT clip is not the Australian concert.

'Upon the Wings of Music' looks to have been recorded in 1975 - should be in my collection [-X

I had read somewhere that Jon and John had a falling out over credits on an album, and Jon took his bat and ball and recorded his own album #-o

John McLaughlin resurrected the esteemed old Mahavishnu Orchestra for his mid-'80s quintet, even getting old mate Billy Cobham to fill the drum slot on the band's first album. But this is an entirely different conception than any of the '70s Mahavishnu outfits. The sound is cooler, less strident, more thoroughly dominated by advanced electronic textures -- including a sleekly elegant digital guitar played through a Synclavier. Instead of a violin, Bill Evans contributes some swirling and sometimes bop-flavored work on saxes, and McLaughlin gets mobile but not overly combustible support from keyboardist Mitch Forman and bassist Jonas Hellborg.

@citizenarcane ^ Seriously want :shock: Do you have the Cat#

When I was doing my googeathon yesterday I discovered John McLaughlin toured with the 4th Dimension here in Brisbane earlier this year - I'm gutted that I didn't know. :x

It's only since getting my vinyl out of storage that I've renewed my interest in music. . .
