Dual 1219 Power Cord & Start Control

Postby msmills » 21 Aug 2012 15:30

Hello - I recently picked up a beautiful 1219 that seems to work fairly well. The power cord seems to be somewhat brittle, and will cause power to cut in and out as I move it around. Can a new cord & wall plug be attached to the white plug that connects to the unit? Also, the control switch to start the turntable has what seems to be way too much play in it. it just seems to move freely from start to stop and beyond with no catches or clicks. Is this normal? Thanks very much.

Yeah, it can be done, just get some new female crimp pin (TH)sockets from Fry's and remember which wire goes where. It's super easy.... I even did it! :D

I Gorilla glued my switch back on and it works perfectly. I don't know if that's recommended, but it works!

Thank you Chewie. I just ordered the TH sockets from Fry's. Are any special tools or soldering required? Would a power cord from an old Panasonic TV be OK to use? Also, did you mean that you glued the start switch because it spun freely?

Just any tool that will crimp will do. There is no soldering required! I didn't have any spares around. That would have saved me a couple of bucks, I had to buy a new power cord. As long as it's not tattered and torn, it should do.

Yes, I glued that start switch because it roamed free.... now it doesn't. I pulled the plastic lever off of the metal pin and glued them back together and put the switch back where it belonged.

I'm actually from East San Jose myself. I've lived in Sacramento for about 16 years, from Rancho to North Highlands and now settled in Elverta.

I just thought I would let you know - I received the sockets from Fry's today, and after a few botched attempts, I was successful in attaching a new cord to the power plug. The turntable is working nicely and sounds great. Thanks again Chewie!
