505-3 Clicking sound as platter turns

Postby To nick » 16 Aug 2012 20:23

Hi,
I have just taken my 505-3 out of storage, replaced Drive and Pitch Belts but I am getting a clicking sound as the platter turns. With the platter off I can see the the belt cam touching a black plastic post on each revolution. Is there a fix for this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Tom

It's clicking on every revolution.

If it is clicking on every revolution then it more than likely needs a service. You say it has been in storage for a while. The grease has probably hardened as it normally does. The service manual in the library will help you.

Thanks I think your right, it needs servicing. On another matter, I can only get it playing at 33 rpm, on 45 rpm it's too slow. Is this the same problem hardened grease in the motor?

If your not getting 33 to 45. It's more than likely the belt needs replacing. when the belt is past it's best it cannot switch from 33 to 45 because there's not enough tension left in it.

Take off the platter and start up the turntable to see if the belt moves on the pulley when you switch speeds. It will probably stay where it is.
