Dual 1009sk tonearm lift pin issue

I have a beautiful 1009sk BUT...the tonearm lift seems like it has far too much tension on it and the pin forces the arm up, even when the lever is in the down position. It either has far too much damping fluid, or is adjusted to max upward force. It compresses, but is forced back up. How do I remove the pin, or adjust the upward force.? I have the service manaul, but doesn't really give me any idea.

That pin should have provision to adjust the length.

And how does one go about that? Does it require dis-assembly , or is it a mysterious hidden screw?

According to the English service manual from the site library, there is a set-screw in front of the arm mount, toward the lift lever. This controls how high the arm will be lifted. See page 8.
