Dual 731Q and AT 12sa

Postby Classic-Sounds » 12 Jul 2012 18:43

I finally got a replacement stylus for the AT12sa, did all the settings I could find and it's playing like I've never heard it before. I've looked in all the usual places but I can't find anywhere that says you can adjust much as far as VTA or SRA on these. Is that true or did I miss something in all my searches? Looked in the user manual and service manual but they seem to hint it's not adjustable. The biggest difference in sound so far was getting the tonearm effective length just right. Thanks to the calculator here I've got it nailed now.

As a side note I sure wish I could winnow down the 100's of lube suggestions to something meaningful I can work with. It's overdue I know but when I moved all my box of TT stuff was lost and I'm working my way through replacing it. And I'll be darned if I can remember what I used before. I think it was sewing machine oil and some sort of lithium grease but I'll be danged if I can remember.

C-S: That's correct - the 731Q/714Q don't feature tonearm height adjustment, while the 721/704 do.

For your lube question, you will find a lot of hints if you google "Dual Reference": this site is full of useful info regarding your "baby"!
I personnally use the lubes they recommend and my good old 1019 is working like new.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Hugh.
