Operating Problems Dual 1214

Postby 1946Hercules » 08 Jun 2012 22:09

I inherited this deck from my brother, and Im trying to find out if it still works.
I don't have an owners manual, and theres a couple of things I can't work out.
1. I can't get the lever that lifts and drops the tonearm manually to work. Is it locked in some way ?
2. To the right of the start/stop lever, theres another lever with 17,25 or 30 as available settings and I haven't found anything explaining what this lever is for. Ive downloaded the service manual, and the lever is shown but not explained.

Any help would be much appreciated.
:) :)

The 17, 25, and 30 are the settings for the diameter of the records you are playing, in metric.

Cheers,
Alec

Hi Hercules,
The lift and drop lever is using silicone oil/grease to work. Dismantle it (service manual) and replace the oil. Heard you can find it in a miniature train hobby shop, or else on e-bay together with lubrication kits for Dual TT's.
Do take this opportunity to clean the mechanism and to remove all the old grease with a q-tip and isopropyl alcool, then relube as indicated on the service manual: you'll be surprised how good your TT will perform after that! Do not overlube and do only the spots indicated on the SM as Duals rely very much on friction for some parts.
Good luck,

Cheers,

Hugh.

Hello Hugh and Alec
Thanks very much for your help (feel a bit silly for not working out about the record sizes)
I will act on the advice about lubrication, as the deck probably hasn't been used for a long time.
