Dual 1225 problems

twice the fun

Postby alleyre » 09 Apr 2010 04:33

the steurpimpel repair to a 1225 was the first successful repair which I
made to resurrect a neglected dual, since then have repaired/restored
a few other turntables & went on to amplifiers etc. :? and now I have
a 'collection' of audio equipment and am running out of space.
so be careful the stuerpimpel can be addictive!

I know it well! Space for turntables, amplifiers, and speakers runs out quickly, but there always seems to be room for "just one more" cartridge... =P~

Cheers,
Alec

Dual 1225 Problems.

Postby Hugues TR4 » 15 May 2011 11:25

To Marijked.

Hi Marijke,

There is absolutely no danger in opening a Dual TT from the top plate: just have a look at the "sticky" post on top of this Dual forum, you will find it all explained (pics as well as video!)
As for your problem, does the motor run freely: it could be a lack of lubrication. Dual motors are very sensitive to this. It starts with funny clicking noises now and then while turning, becoming more and more frequent and finally getting stuck.
You'll find instructions on it on this forum (have a look at a good description from mrow2 how to dismantle and re-oil a motor on the post about Dual "steuerpimpel").
Also check the idler wheel rubber.
Of course you have checked if you have any power getting into your motor...
With a little bit of skill, all this should be done painlessly!

Good luck,

Hugh.

I just did another Dual 1019 motor over the weekend. This time I used 3-in-One Electric Motor Oil (20w), product dedicated to ... motors. Previously, I have used turbine oil (10w) available in the Zoomspout oiler. My impression was that 10w seeps in to the sintered bearings a bit easier, otherwise both work well. I will conclude from this thinner is better. The Zoomspout also is a little easier to reach the top bearing with. This is a Chevron formula, and techs use it for all kinds of things from dryers to photocopiers and everything in between, including turbines. So, I suppose the water utility company guys carry it around with them too.

Thanks all for the steuer-pimpel (steering pin) info, especially the photos are helpful. I was able to revive my granddad's 1225 that I inherited 15 years ago by cleaning and regreasing it and now even the arm works automatically again! I did not find the original 'pimpel', just the pin. I fitted a piece of cable insulation and it worked nearly instantly ;) Thanks again!

Hi,
Thanks all also for the steuer-pimpel (steering pin) info, especially the photos are helpful. My 1225 is now waiting for a new pimpel.

I have an other problem with this Dual 1225:
the cam follower lever moves on its own , and the platter is sometimes blocked when tonearm is returning to its rest position.
I don't know how to correct that?

Thank you for your help.
