CS-630Q Anti-Resonance Filter Info

Postby 370lbgorilla » 22 Jun 2012 18:13

Hello. I bought a mint Dual CS-630Q DD turntable about a month or so ago, and it has been giving me trouble free performance, and great sound so far. But I do have a question regarding the counter-weight.

Is there an anti-resonance filter built into the counter-weight? And if so, is it the simpler elastimer type, or the more advanced mechanical type? Also, do these need periodic adjustment / servicing? Is adjustment or service even possible?

There is no screw on mine, and no markings or words to indicate the type of technology Dual incorporated into this particular design.

I guess I just want to know this so I can maximize performance if that is possible with this arm/counter-weight combination.

Thanks.

Allen: Afaik, the 630Q wasn't available with the tuning-anti-resonator counterweight anymore.

Lini is correct. An anti resonance counterweight was not offered. Perhaps a result of the Thomson take over in the early 80's where decks like our's had a lesser grade of plastic than the older 600 and 700 decks and an anti skating ring around the tonearm base as opposed to a proper dial like the older decks had. Even the clicking sounds are not as solid!

My dad bought our's in 1985 and I still have the original brochure and it is not mentioned anywhere. My deck is still running well. As long as the speed display works all should be well. When that fails...

It is a fine deck and you can mount a goodly number of quality carts on it.

Happy listening

Well thanks guys for the info. I'm actually relieved. Less to adjust, and less to go wrong!

Thanks again,

Allen

Is the original Ortofon 66e cart and DN166e stylus on it?
