turntable setup

Postby shaunthornton123 » 13 Jun 2012 05:54

Hey, im new to the site and need some help. I have dug out my dads old ga312 and got it into working order. The only thing missing is a stylus. I have found one and wondering how to replace it? Also, i need some help with my overall setup. I have no pre amp or amp. So i am open to suggestions for them, i want to start listening to some vinyl again. And mainly listen to classic rock, doors, led zepplin, pink floyd etc. And wondering what a basic setup would be for the turntable. I am on a tight budget around 200 dollars so basic is ideal. Thanks for the help,
Shaun.

Manuals are here: http://www.vinylengine.com/library/philips/ga-312.shtml
Probably the easiest route would be to find a stereo receiver from the '70s or '80s. This should have a phono pre-amp built in. Look for Pioneer, Yamaha, Harman-Kardon, Marantz, Technics, NAD, Sony, Toshibe, or Hitachi. In other words, the Name Brands.
You will also need speakers.

Cheers,
Alec

Im really considering getting a hk430 considering it was paired up with the ga312. But im now unsure if i need a new stylus if im getting the 430? It seems like a good reciever and i found one for about 120 on ebay. So right in my budget. What would be some small but good speakers for the 430? Thanks,
Shaun.
