Yo Adolescents and perpetual Adolescents:
I just noted in my online news service that Dick Clark died of a heart attack in Santa Monica, California today. He was 82 years old. In many ways he was a profound influence on popular music, and he retained his popularity well into his advanced years. I remember watching "American Bandstand" in the '50's and '60's, only occasionally, because my family didn't have a TV in the house until 1966. I had to sneak off to the neighbor's.
There are many who have both positive and negative things to say about him, but I say may he have happiness and peace and joy forever, if only because he provided entertainment for so many people for so long. How few performers of the '50's and '60's would survive in video without those lip-synched kinnies from American Bandstand! He left a wife and 3 children. May they be comforted in their loss.
And good luck from that mournful old guy,
Joe Z.
