I gather it originally came from a visitor to the US of A who came from a country where geese were scarce or absent. After a negative experience with geese, he reported to his hosts: I do not like your cobra chickens!

LOL, that's good. If he wandered close to a goose, particularly in the spring, he may have had one do a cobra like neck lunge at him (or her). I have seen that happen at golf courses. Still, I would rather dodge some geese than have gators in the ponds.
