Bring Out Your Dead

Post by Tinkaroo » 08 Nov 2019 12:10

Sorry for the title, but it got your attention.

Yesterday someone was telling me about a new movie "starring" James Dean. Yes the actor who died in 1955 after making only three movies that were released. You can read about the project and how they are going to do it here.:
https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/07/entertai ... index.html

I'm curious what some of you might think of that since we've had singers doing duets with their long dead parents such as Natalie Cole or Hank Williams Jr., but this seems like something altogether different. We've also had holographic concerts too.

I'm personally not a fan of cgi and would rather see the work of Ray Harryhausen any day, but let's here what you think of this film project.

This project ranks right at the same place with the duets with the dead and holographic concerts. Stupid stinking idea.

What some people will do for money sometimes amazes me. But, in this case, I also find the idea weird because I can't imagine the main movie-going public of today having any idea who the hell James Dean is... :D I'm also thinking fans of his would not go see the movie, as can be gathered from the part of the article in your link that I read.

Then again, I've been wrong before...

I can remember the promise of cgi early on being this sort of goofy thing. Long dead actors, actresses immortally being rendered reincarnate in new productions. The story itself will probably be lame, and capped off with this Avatar like immersion passing for reality, will be a gimmick not worth the popcorn. But, they'll go see it just for it's novelty no doubt. Cgi can have it's place, but like in the proliferation of comic book hero movies. Too much spoils the plot. Of course, those movies don't have a plot to begin with, except for endless action sequences.

Oh man, what a bad idea #-o I can see it now, Men in Black 5 starring Bruce and Brandon Lee, Bridesmaids 4 with Natalie Wood and Jean Harlow...

Oh, not The Grateful Dead!
Those post-mortem duets sound like someone singing along with the radio. Not good.

Cheers,
Alec

Tink: I think of it just as much as I think of milking renownned brand names of no longer existing companies by companies, that just buy up such brand names and put these on inferior products. One should rather let the dead rest in peace, both real persons and brands/companies.

IMO, there are instances where ressurecting the dead for small portions of a film are ok, ala Princess Leia in Star Wars. But the whole movie? Naaahhhh, too much in my book.

Well, is there anyone, who isn't? Even Elvis used to be.
