Ooops, I had cut and pasted from MS Word & it appears I messed that up!

I got the Denon back from the ruby upgrade and burned it in so I was able to finally compare the two mats with a nice cartridge.

The Boston is more open and has a crystal clear high end- the lead/cork is very even and has an emphasis on the low end. I don't think the bass is deeper, just more of it. I have all tube gear and needed the high end clarity in that system. It so happens that my second system is solid state and the lead/cork was very nice there.
I like the BA in the tube system and the M/S in the solid state system.

I still use a rather heavy and fairly thick wool/felt mat that I purchased years ago somewhere now forgotten that still sounds better than any rubber or foam that I've since tried. It doesn't seem to induce much static electricity and I vacuum the mat at regular intervals.

I can find no identifying markings of any kind on the mat. Sorry. I may have purchased it at Custom Stereo in Columbus, Ohio many years ago since I bought most of my equipment from them at the time.

I'm fairly certain they're no longer in business.

I really do prefer the standard felt Mats of both my Regas and my Linn.

Today I tested an Achromat by Funk on my Linn Axis with Akitoarm and Ortofon MC Vivo Blue, and lets just say it was not a good match. Voices was a little bit more forward ( to some a plus, to others not.) and everyting else was just plain bad.

Maybe I'll try on my Regas, but I don't Think it's worth the bother.
