You heard it hear first, fellow AR lovers:

George Merrill will be releasing a Replica AR-ES-1 style turntable later this spring, 2012. It will incorporate some of his time-tested mods to the AR. Exciting news!

It will be an instant classic. The mid 80's ARs with the Merrill/Scillia mods are just shockingly fun to listen to. This sounds like a no brainer and I cant wait to see it!

Interesting indeed.

The low voltage motor I assume? If he can bring it in for under $1,000, even armless, that will be a deal.

Here's the scoop:

Picture:

Mods/Prices:
http://www.gmanalog.com/es-turntable.aspx

I was in the shop a couple of weeks ago and asked why the REAL's little brother was scratched from the webpage. Mr. Merrill said he couldn't get it manufactured for the price he wanted.

Then he told me about this table...
I can't wait to hear/own one.

Nice looking table. I like the over sized platter. A few questions. Anybody know if a record clamp can be used? I was thinking of the new Simply Physics DF-2 clamp. Also, does anybody have an idea of how the speed change is accomplished? Is there an outboard power supply of some sort? One that might have speed change controls? I would assume that in order to keep the price point some things will have to be simplified.

Thanks in advance.

I am on the initial waiting list, so I'll have one in my hands in mid-August. I'll report back when I know more.

He was almost ready for sales, and then decided to go back to work on the base, make it a little less plain. I expect to see a new sample any day now.

The first thought I had when I saw the first pictures was whether the works could be transplanted into the 80's base repros that Larry Lagace is having made from solid wood.
