rega r200 arm

Postby colin_P » 07 Aug 2012 01:14

HI ALL,
My old r200 arm on my p3 is in a bad way because the bias adjustment
has failed. I tried to adjust it to improve tracking using the HFN
test record set up tracks but on doing so the bias knob came lose.
As a result the arm tracking cannot give satisfactory results.

How can I fix the bias adjustment failure?
I cannot find help on this subject anywhere but I think it needs
a repair with a new connecting thing which I cannot seem to source.

Does anyone have experience of this problem?

regards...

In the search bar, type "R200 belt."

Cheers,

As Alec suggests, the subject has been much discussed; I think most recently here:

Hi Colin,

If you can get the arm apart to the point where you can get to the anti skate magnets, all you need to do is rotate the mechanism until the magnet free to move is half way up the mechanism and then super glue where the mechanism meets the body of the arm. This will give you approximately 1.5 grams of anti skate, which should suffice for most cartridges.

Thanks for such fast responses.
I shall spend time to follow up, however:
On checking the arm setup - there is still outward force on the arm
from somewhere (at zero balance the arm moves outward significantly
as has to be held back in) so even though the adjust dial does nothing
something is still providing some outward force. Maybe its already stuck
at the last adjust value (c 1.75 gm).
It seems only diy fixes are possible to restore adjustment with some tricky
workmanship required ie: no replacement parts are obtainable.

thanks again..
If I get the arm to work properly I shall be requiring
advice on a new cartridge (rega r100 now but maybe past it's best)

regards...

Colin,
Have you set up the lateral balance adjuster properly?
Set incorrectly that will affect arm swing!
