Rega Platters

Postby brighton123 » 17 Jun 2012 16:07

Hi,

I found an RP1 in a skip at work the other day and rescued it, Well why not, It has its arm motor and bearing but is missing platter and lid, Are rega platters interchangable, There is a guy on the bay selling a glass one from planar2/3 would this fit the RP1 ?

AFAIK the platters are all interchangeable. This article (found via Google) also says YES: http://www.tonepublications.com/review/ ... -rega-rp1/

I agree with Hollandi. If the glass platter from the p2 goes well with the p1 then you should have no issue with a change up.

Cheers for the replies, Ill go with one of the glass ones from the bay then. Yeah good result finding the RP1, Im curious what it will sound like, Unfortunately the clowns who skipped it cut the mains and arm cables back to nothing so I will have to rewire the arm. I did manage to get power to the motor and check that it spins which it does but I will need to solder a new mains cable to the board, shouldnt be too difficult to do. I will probably rewire the arm with Litz braid as I have some left over from re-wiring my 3009, should be pretty easy with the one piece rega arm Im thinking. I thought I would use a Nagoka MP11 cart on it as I have one spare and make shims up out of plastic or cardboard as required to get the VTA right. Anyone know what the lid situation is? Presumably I would need a dedicated RP1 lid if I decide I need one?

Sounds like a nice pet project... I'm not sure about this but I think the plinth size is the same for all Rega models.

Lids are same dimensions wise - you'll find some on the Bay. New they are around £45 for the P1/2 type and £60 for the P3 and up model (much cheaper than Linn replacements).
There are 2 types in terms of material used the earlier clones/P1/RP1 have a thinner one which scratches more easily - P3 and up has a slightly thicker one. The one on the RP6, when I went to view one in the local dealer, seemed to have a much sturdier lid than ones I've had/got - they may have got a new supplier.

Second user - the tinted ones tend to be off the older Planar decks - clear lids are standard now.

Adding a new mains lead will be easy - when you take the motor cover off it will be easy to replace.
