Rega P5 / RB700 / Benz Micro Glider SL 0,4 mv / Basic +

Postby CARLOSKI » 11 Feb 2012 01:13

Hello Fellow.
This is my first post in this forum and so I invite you to a beer from Spain.
Excuse how badly I write in English.

Tomorrow I get a new Rega P5 with RB700 arm.
I have a capsule GLIDER MICRO BENZ SL (low output 0.4 mv).
The phono pre is BASIC Clearaudio ACCU + + with the extra.

Is this a good conbinación?.
Where can fail this combination?.
Is there synergy?.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR WISE ADVICE.

Welcome to our little area here.
What you have there should sound quite good. I had a Benz Glider mid output version.
Only you can determine the synergy as a system.
Let us know what you think.

The RB700 and Benz Glider are a good match. I have them on a P7 and before on a P5. The P5 could do with some tuning (Platter and Subplatter and PSU and maybe a groovetracer mat) to do justice to the RB700 and Glider. You need spacers to adjust the hight of the tonearm (2x2mm).

I have yet to mount this accessory.
Not sure mounting. Do you really need in P5 with RB700 arm and Benz Micro Glider capsule?.

OFFICIAL REGA WEB: _____________________________________________________________________________
Adjustable Arm Height Spacer
All in one 2mm, 4mm, 6mm and 8mm height adjustment spacer for Rega 3 point tonearms.
When Rega arms are fitted to turntables from other manufacturers it may be necessary to add our "Adjustable arm height spacer" to achieve the correct arm height.
Adjustment is rarely required on Rega turntables, if adjustment is necesscary it is recommended to remove the lid when using the 4mm and above setting as the balance weight may contact the lid.
A smaller diameter tungsten weight is available from your Rega dealer for use with the RB301 to solve this issue.
Note: On all Rega turntables spacers should not be necessary, unless using another manufacturers cartridge.
Arm Height or V.T.A adjustment can be a controversial subject. Rega believes that the integrity of the arm fixing onto the arm mounting board is much more important than the questionable facility of arm adjustment: The arm should be reasonably parallel to the record surface or slightly lower at the mounting. The only time a spacer is necessary to raise the arm height is if the rear of a cartridge is hitting the record whilst playing.

I don't use that one I use 2X2mm spacers/shims for everything I have fitted to the P5.
My list of cartridges are below. Check for level at the headshell with a lined index card.
I also don't use the wood screws. I drilled through the plinth and used stainless bolts and nuts on the bottom.
Much more solid if you think about it. A difference you can hear, cheap and easy. I have described this in another thread. I actually like the single post mount as in the RB300 better.

That Rega quote states that because they want you to naturally use Rega Cartridges. #-o

Hello Baconits.
Do you have a cartridge Ortofon?.
These are high as my Benz Micro Glider.
Are not you put a spacer or lift?.
Rega cartridges have a height of 14mm. The Benz Micro Glider cartcuho has a height of 17mm.
I do not understand the politics of these accessories Rega to spend more money.
I think not be installing a spacer or lift. I'll leave things original series.

You will need the spacers for the correct vertical tracking angle with the Benz, otherwise
you are wasting your money

CARLOSKI,
yes I have the Ortofon X5MC and I used the 2X2mm spacers.
I know, they are expensive if you get them from most Rega dealers. $39 each is a bit steep for what it is. You have to shop this stuff around for the best price. Michael Lim sells them cheaper.

Absolutely correct it won't sound right and will be a waste. That Benz goes for $1k now so you should set it correctly. I think it's more than a bit over priced. I had a Glider too.

Rega expects you to use Rega Cartridges and no spacers are needed with Rega Cartridges. They actually don't believe in VTA.

OK.
I put a spacer for my BM Glider.
But I have no doubt about which put.

If I need to raise the arm 4mm would be this:
http://www.homemedialimited.co.uk/rega- ... pacer.html

But the original spacer for this model is that, although he is only 2 mm of elevation:
http://www.homemedialimited.co.uk/rega- ... pacer.html

Which of the two installed on my Rega P5?.
Does the plastic or metal?.
(First of all, my priority is to find the best possible sound).

I did not like the plastic all in one. 2X2mm metal, stainless steel seems more solid.

Agree, but only raises the metal arm 2mm.
I need 4mm higher, and that only you can get the plastic.
I think this is so.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Umm, that is what I said, 2 X 2mm = 4mm total.
