James,
I have had 2 white belts fitted for around 12 months now without mishap.
OL speed drift issue? could it be that your original belt is causing the problem ie. insufficient tension/motor alignment? Try 2 white belts - you know it makes sense :D I have not had any speed drift issues with the OL although I did put my Rega sub platter in my lathe & just cleaned up the edge to be sure it was concentric!

Lucky you. I've had nothing but bother with the OL motor kit. Firstly,
I found it impossible to get the motor to run slowly enough with the
supplied power supply (9V), so I bought one of those switchable ones and
currently have it running on 4.5 V. I also had to chip away at the veneer on
my Planar 3 to place the motor back far enough to get enough tension in the belt.
This *seemed* to sort a lot of the issues out but recently it's been drifting
again seemingly without logic.

To be honest, if I had a few hundred quid to spare I'd be sorely tempted to go
for the Rega 24V motor and the TT PSU.

Yes, I think the flat section belt is done and I like the idea of two round
section belts. I'm going to try it with stock black belts first before considering
the white ones.

^ Am I the **only** Rega Planar owner on here who's had major issues with the
vastly-overpriced Origin Live DC Motor Kit??

I simply cant believe that. :-s

James, which model did you go for? I bought the Advanced upgrade with the DC100 motor & it has been brilliant:-) No speed issues at all!!! If the unit is fairly new I would contact OL & see what they say. They are very good if you feel you have an issue. Just a thought ... you are not feeding the power from a 'cleaned up' source are you? - they do state quite clearly in the paperwork that their Regulator box must be plugged direct into the mains wall socket!

Hi brassnwood.

I believe I have the DC100 motor version. However, I've had this problem for years now,
before the DC100 motor version even existed. I was an (unsatisfied) Origin Live customer
way before then...

But, please dont tell me to contact Origin Live and make an issue of it. I've tried that
one
and was told the problems are (somehow) of my own making - i.e. "your room must
be too hot/cold...." (I live in Glasgow. In Scotland, folks. You cant really get more temperate
than that....)

Also as I've said, I could not get the OL motor to run **slow** enough with the supplied
9V power supply and had to buy my own switchable version and run it at a lower voltage.
Lucky you with your no problems.

What exactly do you mean by "feeding the power from a 'cleaned up' source" by the way??

I consider the OL DC Motor Kit a colossal waste of my money and, in my experience, I'd steer
Rega Planar owners away from it, should they ask my opinion.

I think what brassnwood is asking is whether you are plugging the PS into a power conditioner or regenerator, rather than directly into a wall.
Sorry to hear about your problems, that really blows.

GC - glad to hear it! I notice that Frank (Groovetracer) is using this cart as well on his latest P5 pics.

It's plugged into a 4-way extension socket that's common in the UK. Something a
lot like >> this <<.

It doesn't have surge-protection or anything. Plugging the power supply directly
into the wall is completely impractical. Besides, as I've said, I dont even use the
power supply OL supplied, as it simply made the motor run way too fast.

Yes, I do have the 10X5 on my P5 at the moment. I try to use cartridges on my Rega turntables that many Rega owners use. I have the AT150-MLX on my P3 as well.
This allows me to test my products and obtain results that others will experience too.
I just noticed that the Absolute Sound gave the AT150-MLX cartridge of the year. A few years ago J&R Music sold the AT150-MLX for $250 shipped, an absolute bargain.

After lurking this thread for a while I decided to chime in. Recently bought a P5 at the newly reduced prices :-) Quite nice from the start, but I had bigger plans - not all smooth sailing mind you. Got the TTPSU and found it tightened up the sound generally. Then got Michael's double pulley, silicone belts and counterweight. Again, more improvement, definition. But, still some noise floor to deal with. So I got Frank's Groovetracer Reference platter. Overall, a totally potent combination for me now. The table absolutely sings and I am now experiencing a truly black background for perhaps the first time. Magic. At the moment am running a Garrott K2 MM. Also have a Denon DL103r nuded and in an Aluminium body and an AT150MLX. Each cartridge has real character now. The AT150MLX is VERY clean and quite precise and neutral. The Denon DL103R is all about silky mids and smoothness and of course the warmth. But right now really enjoying the Garrott - has some real character that is not at all contrived - a very nice presence and nice balance.

So thanks to Michael and Frank for their efforts and innovation - they have certainly helped me move a good turntable, in stock form, to a much higher level. Can't stop spinning this week and I really need to get more sleep .....

Sounds a lot like mine, taskerc :)
Wonderful how these P5s can sing!!
One thing that I din't believe would make a difference was the Groovetracer counterweight, but it made s substantial change in bass and sound image.

Looks like a spaceship straight out of Star-Wars
