Here is a suggestion. I've seen Regas painted with the Union Jack:

Maybe you can paint the flag of Norway on your P5! :D

hi Rolf, love your thread. (took me a day to read #-o

You probably single handed increased GT's bottomline:) You should be on commission...

My soon to be set up:
P3-24 (Blue)
Power - TTSpu
platters - Delrin - Black
subplatters Ref
Tone arm - The Wand

It seems that not many have changed the tone arm. Will keep you guys posted how it works out:)

Again great stuff.

No Union Jack or Norwegian flag here, cool idea though!

But the silver paint just didn't do it for me. :-(
A paint stripping we go!

The original cherry comes back

Stripped!
Now I could go with sanding and a clear coat on top of the cherry to go back to the original, but where's the fun in that?

It's the "picture frame" look of the frame that I want to move away from.
The look is enhanced with the cherry colour. Not so much with the aluminium silver or black.

I have some thought about how I want the new frame to look.
But since a lot of time spent planning is a good idea, I try out my ideas on the original frame first.

The main goal is to give the frame a cleaner look.
First I had to fill the center of the frame with, yes, filler. :)

Thanks gidion!

Well, don't know about the GT bottomline.
But I really do enjoy those products and find that they are top notch fell, fit and finish! 8)

Please show some picts of your setup. Blue is one of the colours I think abour for my frame.

Ok then

I tried a blue finish and I think it turned out really cool.
Just test-fitted one of the frame pieces and had to take a couple of pictures.

A few more coats of laquer and new corner pads, and this is a keeper.
At least until my new frame is finished.

Cleaner look with flat top on the frame - check!
Blue as the frame colour - check! (Red or green may look cool to....?)

I've always found the frame of the P5 to be butt-ugly. This look much *MUCH* better, tighter and cleaner.

Thanks guys!!

Finished it today :)
Not too happy with the finish, could be more smooth but with a spray can this is maybe as smooth as it gets...

I'll have to make new corner pads due to the new shape of the frame.
I found a piece of felt that I think will fit.

Image

To me the Rega look is the look of the P3-24's (and now the RP6) glossy plinth.
Cool, tight and clean!
I like the strong colours too.
This is the direction that I want to change the look of my own P5.

Looking at it from this angle, I think it's a cool P5 :)

And of course, the frame colour matches the shark :D

You can always buff out the color.

Just because t is from a can, doesn't mean it has to look that way!

I did a repair on a bass guitar that had a broken headstock. I sprayed it black again after the repair with a rattle can and buffed it out after. I made more work for myself because the repair paint looked better than the factory paint, so I had to buff the whole thing out!

It looks pretty smooth but to get a true mirror finish, get 600 and 1000 grit sand paper and wet sand the paint with a block to keep it flat. Then buff with car buffing compound (very fine cut). Once you can no longer smell the paint solvents, wax it with a hard wax.

It looks ok for now, but when the new frame is made, I'll follow your tips on this one.
Thanks :)

Considered having a frame cut out of marble or granite? Could give the plinth some extra mass.
