Sonab 75s - Looking For English User / Service Manual

Postby john1964t » 12 Jun 2011 20:30

Hi all

I'm new to the forum and have been looking for an english user and service manual for a Sonab 75S Turntable, that I picked up off Ebay for my sons birthday.

I've found a Sonab 85S manual on this site, in Sweddish and a Yamaha YP-700 manual in English (but that has a different tone arm).

I've had a good look at the TT and it looks like it has been well looked after and is in good condition but I want to make sure it's set up correctly. It's all original and fitted with an Osawa OS101, (which I have just sourced a new original stylus for).

It sounds great linked up through a marantz PM-6010 OSE to Whardale diamon 9.0's.

Has anyone got a scan of English manuals... I've searched the web and can't find one.

Thanks

Hi Again

No answers to the post... so I've translated the Swedish manual, (google translate and a few other web sites), added some better photos and some extra info from various sources for Sonab 75S / 85S and Yamaha YP-700 turntables and created a new English user Manual.

I've just uploaded it so it should appear soon on the site, you never know someone else may find it useful.

Anyway, I've now fitted a new cartridge and rebalanced the arm and it sounds even better.

I'll post the link as soon as it appears in the library.

There are Alignment Protractors available through the link at the top of the page, or you can make a custom one using the link at the top of the cartridges forum.
Sounds like you know what you are doing, though.

Cheers,
Alec

Hi Alec

Thanks for the reply... I'm not sure I know fully what I'm doing. I'm not bad technically with most stuff, but I've never spent much time setting up a TT.

Will setting the cartridge alignment make much difference?

Thanks

Setting the cart alignment will help as will keeping the tip clean, replacing the belt and oiling the bearing.

My dad used to have the Yamaha version of the turntable and a Sonab 4000 receiver which was (in the '70s) a very futuristic looking device. I still think it looks nice now.

Hi JT

Ok looks like cart alignment is the next job, I've already oiled the bearings and fitted a new stylus.

I do think the Sonab looks quite good. But I think it looks a bit more retro now and less futuristic.

Anyway, the translated manual has been loaded up at

http://www.vinylengine.com/library/sonab/85s.shtml

Anyone want to improve on it??? The translation in parts is not great but anyone reading it should get the gist of what it says, and the new photos should help.

The thing is, I bought this TT for my son on his birthday and I'm starting to use it. I even went to a record fair today and picked up some bargains. The vinyl does sound much better than CD. I need a TT for my self.... I feel bit of a project coming on and I think the front room is going to get a make over, (and system).

Anyone out there got a nice TT they don't want!!!

Thanks
