Garrard 990b

Hi everyone,

I've recently acquired this model for free. Unit can be powered up but tonearm seems to be all gummed up and platter is'nt moving due probably to long storage. may need a lot of lubricating and oiling. previous owner says last time he used it was in fair working condition and played records before keeping it in storage the past 4 years or so. From the looks of it, it seems a well made t-table and accordingly from my little research, has a decent low mass tonearm. I may have to find a restorer/technician to make this thing work. Is this turntable comparable in some way to the famous 301 and 401 tables or some other make? Is it worth restoring? Need your valuable inputs on this before i make decisions. Thanks in advance for any advice given! :)

Forgot to mention it has a Shure Hi-track cartridge M-91 of some sort installed on the tonearm

It is a correct turntable, one of the best by Garrard in the late 70's
Driving Method is interesting : an idler wheel in contact with motor pulley and then, a belt from the idler to the platter. Good torque and no rumble, but you need a good belt and absolutly no grease on the idler wheel....!

Tonearm is correct, with "S" profile and automatic functions are smooth....if the mechanical is well greasing

It is very easy to clean parts and all the library about this turntable is here.
Note that it is the same chassis than ZERO-2000B, except of tonearm and strobo lamp.
