Missing counterweight for a Garrard 125SB

Postby Barbarosa » 08 Mar 2012 07:53

I have been given a Garrard 125SB which is excellent order but unfortunately it has the tonearm counterweight missing. I hope to be able to get one made but I need a few more details than can be gathered from the instruction manual. Most importantly I need to know the weight of the counterweight. I read what it says about setting the stylus force but I don't quite understand how it is set. Is it possible to make a counterweight? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

The counterweight seems identical to the one found on most Japanese tables. Looks like Garrard sourced the tonearm from a Japanese supplier. You can find that counterweight on e**y or find a non working, for parts table with a similar tonearm so you can salvage the counterweight from that one.

Another solution is to put on any weight that you can find and balance the arm with digital stylus force guage.
