Garrard DD75 Headshell Question

Postby mcenge » 25 Jun 2008 23:12

Hello,

I’m new to this forum and have a question regarding a DD75 I picked up for $2 recently at a local thrift store. I plan to set it up as a first TT for my sons. It looks to be in very good shape, all the controls work and it doesn’t look as though it ever has been abused. Except….. the headshell is missing and looks as though it was pulled from the tonearm. The wires are hanging out and it looks as though it was held in by a threaded fastener or pin from underneath the arm. Am I correct to assume that this wasn’t a removable headshell? I couldn’t find out much info about this particular model Garrard or it's tonearm. Any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks in advance
Mike

The headshell did indeed screw onto the end of the arm, in a permanently fixed way, and has a slide in/out cartridge carrying platform located on it for easy cartridge changing. Here's a closeup of the item from an SP25Mk5 which is basically the same -

I'm afraid you really need to find the right type from a donor deck (the SP25Mk5 and 86SBMk2 also use the same type), or a replacement arm from somewhere.

Thanks for the info. It helps a lot. Since I posted I located and contacted South Street Service. They sell the parts but for both pieces it would run about $80. I'll keep a look out for another table for parts for now. I've seen the cartridge carriers on the bay but not sure if I need a C1,C2,C3 or C4.
Thanks,
Mike
