Ortofon SPU round or elliptical?

Postby audiothomas » 26 Nov 2005 10:04

Hi,

what are the pros and cons for a SPU with round or elliptical tip?
Which one to deliver the most drama and excitement?

I want to use it on a Garrad 301 with matching high mass tone arm.

Thank you
Thomas

I owned both about 30 years ago. The elliptical is more detailed and possibly shows response into the treble.
Both have an eminently vital sound, full of impact, well balanced, neutral, and spacious. Tracking ability is good but not generous.
Which is better? Sorry, I just enjoyed both without critical comparisons.
