JICO HE or JICO SAS

Postby Emref » 24 Jul 2012 15:56

Hi: I need some advise.
My turntable is a Fisher 6335 (do not beat at me...)I used it with a V15IV MR, and it surpassed all the Shure Era IV Test record, but the cantilever brokes in a bad movement :( I'm going to replace the stylus by a Jico one, thoes it worth the Jico SAS, or the HE will be enough?, is $ 80 versus $150.

Thanks in advance

The SAS is a similar profile to the MR. I would expect the SAS to seriously outperform the HE

I own a Shure V15 Type IV upon which I mounted a Jico SAS stylus. This is the best cartridge/stylus combination I have heard.

On the other hand,

I bought an SAS for my Shure M97HE cartridge that still had the original HE stylus in good condition. The SAS and the HE on the M97 sounded identical to my ears.

I have never read anything bad about Jico styli, and my personal experience has been quite good. I believe you will obtain good results with either stylus.

The Jico HE and SAS have needle profiles which will sound very similar - the difference is in the cantilever with the SAS having the special boron cantilever - low mass magnets, and tensioning/damping system.

The original Shure HE had a very fine cantilever and was a very good needle - the Jico HE is a middle of the road cantilever - done to a high level of quality, but not as fine as the original HE.

I would go for the SAS (and I have...)

Thank you robsanderson, majerjack, dialoum, I´ll go for the SAS, I received a couple days ago a Red Saunders V15IVHE and I´m getting sibilant High frecuencies and lack of punch in the bass, bad choice..., I´m back to the M95HE, till the SAS arrives.

Thank you very much again
