Roger Russell, the online guru of all things McIntosh (and much more) has a page on Micro-Acoustics and the design of their cartridges. He states "The transducer elements were referred to as electrets, but were made of... piezoelectric material, lead-zirconium titanate."

I have a low-hours 2002e I am going to be mounting up soon.

I believe you will enjoy the 2002e. I've always been impressed with the performance and just how sweet the top end sounds... I have another that is missing the stylus unfortunately, but this is one sweet cartridge and was a steal for the price they asked for it back then.

I have one of these that I haven't used in many years, it's still on a headshell for my Dual 1229Q, seems to me that there were 2 filters or something that plugged in between the phono inputs and the RCA plugs, any one else remember this or was I just Smokin' Too Much back then??? Might just be that I had some RCA Y plugs that I tried once to run 2 TT's off the same receiver but I seem to remember something different for the MA 2002E, straight thru filters. Any one else remember these??? Glenn.

No, there were no such thingies, but it's interesting that there IS a built in filter network in the 2002e, which shapes the cart's output to match the RIAA curve, as discussed in the link above; better rendered as:

Thanks, Etnier, I've been holding back on trying the 2002e 'cuz I thought something may be missing. I remember it to be a sweet sounding cartridge in the 80's. I seem to be swapping out TT's or cartridges most every week so I'm going to throw this back in the mix to see what I think of it after all these years. Glenn.
