Recently I bought an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge, inside the box there was a clear three inch long clear tube containing a white plastic ''Thingy'' which looks like some kind of weighing tool.It has an scale printed on it'' Ml 30 25 20 15 12.5 10'' there is no mention of this item, either in the instructions, or the manual. Can someone enlighten me as to what it is and how to use it?

It's a tracking force balance. To use it, place the balance onto your platter and lower your stylus into the groove at the mark that responds to the desired tracking force. The gauge is marked in mN so divide by 10 for grams eg for 1.5g place the stylus next to the 15 mark. Adjust tracking force until the the sides of the balance and the holder line up (lifting the stylus out of the groove when adjusting tracking force).

JaS thank you very much for your prompt reply,it is much appreciated. It was the markings that threw me, because I was expecting any scale to be in Grams.
Kindest Regards,
