My SS mounting Bolts & Nuts weight

Postby Keltik-er » 16 Jun 2012 07:08

Wonder if anyone know or how to calculate the above fasteners weight of a pair of my SS hex cap bolts & nuts m2.5*12mm. in order to be added to my AT-OC9 mk3 (8 gm) and wanna plot to find if it's best suited compliance. I'm a newbie here and this is mounted on the Linn Ekos ( effective mass is 11.5 gm) thanks for all helps. :D

Hello Keltik-er,

Although I have never accounted for the weight of mounting bolts and nuts for cartridges, it would be easy to have a pharmacy weigh them for you.

Also, one can weigh them at home by mounting a cartridge and setting it for zero tracking force, and then add the intended hardware items on top of the headshell to read out the resulting weight.

REgards,
bauzace50

PS- the question leads to the issues of compliance and Low-Frequency resonance. May I say that the variations in hardware weight in regard to mounting one cartridge is of very little consquence. It would be generally safe for that purpose to assume that they do not add weight, and "forget about them".

do you not have a stylus balance?if you have just weigh them, what length are they, let me know and I will weigh some of same length for you, won't be perfect but should be pretty near as I doubt the materials density etc will be much different

If you have a digital stylus-force gauge you could use that as well, as long as the total weight of the screws is less than about 5 grams.
