Need Some Advice, Matching Cart/Pre to a new TT

Hello - I'm getting ready to purchase a new VPI Scout although I'm debating what cartridge to pair with it and whether or not I should upgrade my phono-pre.

A quick background on where I'm coming from: My current analog system is a Pro-Ject Debut III with all the upgrades (acrylic platter, speed box, record weight). My cartridge is an AT440MLA and my pre is a project phonobox SE II. I listen to mostly rock/pop from the 60's to today but will occasionally throw on some Jazz and classical - I really like it all! Frankly I'm relatively happy with my sound but I know I'm really just at the entry level and I'm excited to improve my system.

Here is my dilemma: Originally I was going to bolt the AT cart onto the table temporarily (fully knowing it will not do the table justice), I really like doing one thing at a time so I can hear what each component adds to my system. My dealer is willing to give me a break if I buy the cart with the table. That being said, I'm considering doing both at the same time although I'm not sure where to go. I can spend upwards of $1,000 on the cart although I really don't want to pull all of the money out of pocket. A few considerations are Dynavector (10x or 20x), Soundsmith (Carmen or Boheme) or maybe a 2M Black? I'm open to any suggestions... Would I be making a mistake by not upgrading both at the same time?

The other issue is I feel that my pre is pretty lacking. I was fortunate enough to borrow an ARC PH6 for a month and it blew me away so I know I'll have the upgrade bug here pretty soon down the road. I hear a lot of positive things about the PS Audio pre and I really like the price point. Would it be appropriate to consider something like this to match my new table or should I hold out for something like the ARC (I'm not set on the ARC).

Looking forward to your feedback! Thanks!!

FYI - My 2 Channel system is a Krell S300i & Martin Logan Theos.
