Cartridge and Tonearm matching, What do I Need to Know?

Postby SoundHarmonyMKII » 31 May 2012 20:51

Contemplating upgrading my cartridge and I'm curious what I need to know to get it right. I'm using a Rotel RP-850 with stock arm. I found someone selling these on e-bay NOS and claiming they were a Jelco made arm model 250 ST. I looked them up and the similarities look vague, to me it much more resembles the arm on the AR EB 101. Not sure if this is even important though.

I do know that it can accept cartridges weighing 3-9g with tracking forces of .5-3g, and if it is the Jelco arm, they had the option of a larger couterweight which may also be compatable with my arm then.

Is there anything else important I need to know when it comes to choosing the perfect cartridge?
I got a fever, and the only cure, is more cowbell!
