Is anybody running an AT 120e on a RB250/300

Hi there folks,,

Is anybody using this combination and on what turntable..

On my LP 12 I am using an Incognito rewired RB250 and an AT95e..

It sounds really good,,but the old Sondek is a soft and cuddly old affair,,yes I know,,blah,,blah,,blah,,It isn't accurate,,I didn't put up this post to discuss the Sondek however,,I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment..HaHa !!!..Anybody hijacking my thread to do so will be sent to bed early with no supper....

OK I was wondering if the AT 120 would give the Sondek ( a soft and warm turntable ) a wee bit of a kick up the bum,,plus more detail coming forth with it being a 3x7 nude tip..But the compliance may be too high for the Rega's arm mass...The RB250 actually has the fingerlift removed,,this was done by the prior owner.so I imagine it will be a fair bit less in effective mass than standard..I'm really unsure about the compliance/mass match.I hear wildly differing reports in compliance,,this seems normal on here..( It's 8 cpu,,no it's 48 cpu )..So I think it is better to ask someone actually using one of the things..Especially on the RB series of arms,,or indeed arms similar in mass..

I also read stylus/stylus suspension break in time is very long..?? Has anyone any comment on this...

I love you all,,just no comments about the Sondek's flaws OK..Yes I know it's far from perfect..And I refuse to spend a fortune buying a Linn Cartridge and Arm...I'm just asking about the AT120e,,I have narrowed it down to this cartridge for now,,The reason I'm not asking about the 440 is because it will be more sensitive to VTA and the Rega RB series uses spacers,,so it will be almost impossible to get the VTA/SRA bang on..Plus I don't want to use one of the LP gear Shibata etc.. styli in my AT 95e for the same reason,,It seems the more advanced the stylus tip,,the more sensitive it is to VTA/SRA

I could quite easily live with my LP12 as is,,but I'm really curious about the 120 e... :D

The ATN120E is moderately high compliance - should fit pretty well to a RB250/300.

Well that Linn of yours is........just kidding. Having used a AT-120e at one time I would say yes it will add some zing to your Lp system. And later down the road when the stylus wears out (a long time) you can replace it with a better profile stylus.......

Hi, I have tried an AT120e (also At95e and AT110e) and must admit to not liking the AT120e/RB250/300 combination, I couldn't put my finger on it but it just didn't engage at all....actually the AT110e (which you can still get from William Thaker sounded best to me).

I'm currently running an Ortofon 2M BLUE with a REGA RB300 on a Heybrook TT2, it's sounds superb, i've also heard this combo on an LP12 (Hercules) and it sounded very good.

The problem is Rob getting styli etc for the AT110e..They are already obsolete..So that bothers me a little..Plus there are more styli choices for the AT120e body..

I'm not really a fan of Ortofons...The ones I have owned I found a bit harsh and grainy sounding..Maybe my experience..They are certainly dynamic though.. :)

This may not be helpful but i've had a 120e on my RB300/Systemdek 11X. I really could not get on with it, far too bright for my ears ( oops, mixed metaphor).
I certainly used it for long enough to run it in but it has really had very little use so I might sell it.............

Regards,

Chas.
