Which cartridge/stylus combo advice

Postby stiffy » 29 May 2012 09:55

I've recently bought a Pioneer PL 12D for very little money and am doing some comparison tests with my Sanyo Plus Series Q25. I think the Pioneer has the edge but here's my question.

The Pioneer came with a Shure R25XT cartridge and a 3X stylus. (Made for Realistic)
The Sanyo has an Ortofon cartridge and an FF15E MKII pattern stylus.

Both the styli could probably do with being replaced so would you guys recommend a pattern Shure 3X
stylus, a new pattern Ortofon or would I get better results forgetting both and buying a new Audio Technica AT95e?

Whichever direction I go it will probably end up on the Pioneer.

My only comment is to choose a stylus with a VTF of preferably between 1.7g and 2.2g as it will match better with the Pioneer arm.

Bye for now
