Stanton BA-26 step up transformer

Postby youngdand » 24 Apr 2012 18:35

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience or opinions of this battery powered step up or as they call it, pre preamplifier?

have bought one, but would like to ssee if is suitable for my needs. I have a creek OBH15 and the gain is a little low for my lyra lydian, and hoping this wll enable me to run it into the MM section. would appreciate if anyone has the specs etc that they could let me know.

If anyone has any exprience of sound that would be appreciated too.

thanks,

Dan.

Thanks,

Thats all i was able to find on it. Seems ok with the Creek OBH15 which has a quite low gain.

sounds nice, being battery powered it reduces the noise floor somewhat and for the £20 i paid, its a bargain.

Cheers.

Im a few days in on this now, and have put a new set of batteries in, and all i can say is wow.

If you ever see one of these come up, i definately recommend it. i may well keep an eye open for the 980lzs Low output MM that it was designed for.

Playing through this little head amp has made a dramatic difference to my system. Firstly everything is more defined, you can really hear the seperation between the instruments, which must be due to the low noise floor of being battery powered, in the initial stages of gain. Secondly bass seems to have tigtened up a bit and treble is crisp, possible tamed a little by the valve amp, and that maybe through solid state gear it would be a little too sharp. Lastly its just the sense of space that it gives music. People quite often state "it sounds like the artist is in the room" and i never really beleived this could be the case, however, i can certainly get a sense of this on my system with the addition of this little head amp.

to date i think this has been the single most impacting addition my system i have made.

again, if you happen accross one like i did, i would snap it up.

Regards,

Dan.
