I need a replacment needle for my Luxman DD PD282, can someone help? I can't find anyone selling the recommended audio-technica needle.

Does your needle look like this one: http://www.turntableneedles.com/Needle-200-D7T-copy_p_912.html? Then your three highest quality choices would be the ATS12S and ATN12S (both Shibata; the former sometimes nude, the latter always bonded only) as well as the ATN12XE (nude medium-sharp elliptical).

You're welcome - and you should find the model designation on the top of the cartridge, provided it actually is an AT ('cause afaik over here the PD282 came with an AKG P8 instead - so, if in doubt, just make a pic and post it here for identification...).

P.S.: I don't snakker Norsk, but I like Norway. So where exactly are you located, if I may ask?

Oh, in Bergen - we've still got the big 900 years jubilee poster at my parents' place. And my stepfather along with some of his friends even made it into the newspaper back then: Apparently the Norwegians found it funny that a couple of young Germans from Bavaria would visit their country in an old police truck... ;)

Alright, that changes the situation - 'cause what you've got there is neither an Audio Technica, nor an AKG, but an older Ortofon. Looks like it might be an M15E Super or maybe an M20E Super - but that's not quite easy to tell, as Ortofon used that body style for quite a few different models (though most of these didn't have a golden, but a silver coloured generator shell). So what you'd need to to is to check how exactly that rectangular hole on the front is shaped inside and then compare that to the plug shapes of the various needles for that type of body. A good place for that purpose would be Turntableneedles (http://www.turntableneedles.com/ORTOFON_c_25308-1-3.html), 'cause they have those nice rotating view feature for each of those needle, so that you can easily see the various plug shapes...

Strange that is - 'cause on the original F15 and F15E the generator shells were black. Did you buy the Luxman used? Then the previous owner might already have installed a lower ranking replacement needle. Anyway, if the N15 fit, the body should also work with the current NF15XE MkII needle and most probably also the better D20E, although the latter might be a bit too compliant for the tonearm of your PD282.

The nf15xe mkII looks must like the n15...so I guess it would fit. What will you regard as the difference between those three needles in quality. And the ortofon cartridge, is that a good one? The luxman was my dads, I guess he bought it on a second hand market .
