Cartridge alignment

Postby facundo » 27 Oct 2004 07:52

Just wondered what the crucial aspects are? On my instructions all it says is that the cartridge must follow the curve on the protractor and align with the markings. I assume the stylus must rest on each circled cross as I move from one to the other and that the side of the cartridge should be parallel to the markings. Should the cartridge be to the front of headshell and slightly turned towards the spindle?Never had a go in the past and am finding this operation very fiddly.

the way I get it is that the cartridge is parallel with the side lines on the portractor , the front of it is parallel with the front lines and the stylus moves from one cross to another along the curve , but the headshell sides are not parallel. The cartridge sticks out somewhat from the headshell. In fact it is almost at its furthest forward point possible. would this be correct?

If the cart is aligned on both spots, then it's aligned.
I don't believe there's anything more to it, as far as you describe it, I think it's just fine.

Correct. The headshell is irrelevant--you're aligning the cartridge, not the headshell.
