Linn Troika Cartridge rebuild

Postby vicdiaz » 24 Jan 2010 16:18

Hi,

I currently own a Linn Troika moving coil cartridge that requires a full cantilever and stylus replacement (Linn does not offer this service anymore... :( ). Reading this and other forums seems that I have three choices to send the cartridge for tender and loving care:

Soundsmith (US)
Expert Stylus (UK)
Goldring (UK)

I would like to have feedback on these cartridge rebuilders prior to sending the Troika for service and not waste my money.

Thanks in advance,

I have heard very good things about Soundsmith. Their rebuilding and new cartridges have gotten excellent reviews. B&O trusts them to rebuild all the old B&O carrtridges.

Off to EsCo it is! Got an e-mail from them with detailed instructions for shipment and a preliminar quote! :D

Never got a response back from Soundsmith :( so they lost a potential customer.

Hey...just saw this thread. How did the rebuild of the Troika go? How much did it cost you, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi,

I did not send the cartridge to EsCo due to financial constraints. Ended up buying a 2nd hand Linn Arkiv from a reputable source a few weeks ago and currently enjoying it!!! May send the Troika for retip and keep it as a backup.
