MC Cartridge Degaussing or Fluxbusting, Required or Not?

Postby Paiboon Pokpoon » 24 Jun 2004 17:05

Hello,

Does anybody here have an idea about the degaussing or fluxbusting of a moving coil cartridge? Is this practice required at times for the cartridge or not necessary at all? I've heard that somebody advised against the fluxbusting because it would produce an adverse effect on the cartridge quality in the long run. Despite this warning, some fluxbusting devices are still available. If the fluxbusting is not good for a cartridge, why are these fluxbusting devices still produced and offered for sale?

What about your opinion?

Take a look at:

For a different point of view:

And another:

My own take on this is not to do anything that might possibly affect the cartridge's magnet.
