Denon cartridges with Rega 250?

Postby drherd » 20 May 2004 12:54

Hi Folks,
Are any of the high output Denon MC's Ok with a rega 250 (on a systemdeck IIx). I've only got a MM phono stage in my amp (Unison Research Unico) and I'd rather spend a bit more on the cartridge than have to buy both a cartridge and a step up. Cheers,

Dave,

I can't comment on the Denon cartridges in the RB250. But the Sumiko and Dynavector high-output moving coil designs all work very well in the Rega arm.

If you go for one of those options (or even the Denon) it's well worth considering a re-wire for the tonearm to get the best out of the cartridge...

I'd expect the DL110 to be a fine match for a IIX/RB250, well good enough.

Hello,

I read an old issue of a Thai audio magazine, in which a Denon DL 110 was tested in combination with a Rega RB 300 and its performance proved satisfactory, according to the reviewer. So I think with your RB 250 the result would be the same. Another choice is the DL 160 model, which is a high-output cartridge and costs a little more than the DL 110. I'm using the DL 160, inter alia, with my Dynavector DV 505 tonearm and the sound proves satisfactory and pleasant to my ears.

Both the models of Denon are not expensive and they are worth listening.

Best regards,
