Need major help with my TD 125!!!

Postby Smiley1071 » 22 Aug 2012 01:14

I am the proud owner of a TD 125 MKI. I have had it for aproximately 3 years and it always worked pretty well except for being kind of slow to start. I recently decided to rework the circuit board in hopes of revamping the drive system. I replaced all the capacitors and went back with what the original electrical diagram showed. Well,, after this, the motor would no longer spin. Just vibrate. So, in order to get the rest of the circuit back to the original diagram I replaced the resistors, and the trasistors. I had a pro at a local electronics shop match up the transistors with modern day ones. So, after replacing the caps, resistors, and transistors when I turn the unit on the motor just stays in one place and vibrates. Also, when I try to use my meter on the black and blue like the service manual suggests I get values that are not even close to what they should be. I know that even you pros can't fix my table through the internet, but if you have seen similar issues with a TD 125 any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I am not an electrical engineer, but I am good with a soldering iron and understand the basics. BTW all caps are non polarized.

Contact Dave at VinylNirvana.com
He specialises in vintage Thorens and AR turntables. With some of those semiconductors not even available anymore, it would take an electrical engineer to get that board to function properly again, from what I read in your post. Very possibly Dave will have an old stock replacement for the whole circuit board.
