Deccasound 613 - Help

Postby nitro79 » 09 Jul 2012 09:49

Hi everyone
We found an old Deccasound 613 in the place we are renting stuffed away in a cupboard.

We have it working and been playing some Black Sabbath ACDC and CSN already but......
We can't seem to figure out how to use the arm that sets up the next record? In order to play records at the moment we pull out the bar in the middle and put it through the record then put it back into the turn table as we can't get the records on any other way as the bar has a mechanism on it that stops you from sliding the record down.

Does anyone have a manual or could explain clearly how to do it?

Thanks everyone
Dean

Hi Nitro

The idea was that you placed your records on the center spindle and moved the holding arm over which would keep the records level until ready to play. You would then click the play switch/button/whatever the auto potion was and it would do it all for you. the first record would drop onto the platter the arm would slide over and carefully drop the stylus onto the groove. At the end of your record it would raise move back and your next record would drop and begin all over again.

Mainly used for singles but I guess LP's would work just aswell.

Ah the memories of youth :)

Thanks so much for your reply. I see so put the record on and move the arm over. Im not sure but it seems like that may not be working so is there a way to get the middle bar to put the pin in so you can just slide the record right down?

Sorry another question... We played Crosby Stills and Nash on it last night and when it gets to about 97% into the record it dosnt go any further. Is there a maximum play that the player can play? Or can you change this to play it all?

Yo nitro79:

It sounds to me as if the trip mechanism on your record changer is hanging up. You are going to have to lift the turntable off and watch underneath the changer itself and underneath the turntable as the arm moves toward the center. Just lift arm and hold it about a quarter inch (6mm) above were it would ride if playing a record, and move it slowly toward center of record, and watch the mechanism and feel it as it moves. The thing that often hangs up is the little trigger that is right at the center of the turntable. You will see it and feel it as it hangs up. This is mechanical interference, or lubricant that has become sticky or solid over years. At office, so very limited posting time. Bye for now.

And good luck from that stuck-up old guy,

Joe Z.

Thank you for helping. I will have another play tonight and see if that will work.

You know why it dosnt play to the end of the LP? Seems to only play to about 97% then jumps on that? Can you extend it so it plays to the end of the record? Or do you think its the record thats the problem? Will have to test again tonight with another record.

Try another record. It may be linked to the gummed up workings. These things never get looked at over the years and could be something really simple that became the reason why it was mothballed into the cupboard in the first place.

Good Luck

Oh and your holding arm often needed to be lifted first before moving across to then drop down and clamp onto the LP/singles.

A quick look on youtoob gives an example of how it's suppose to work although this is a philips so the Decca may be different.
