hummng sound on HK turntable

Postby johnptonar » 22 Jun 2012 04:54

Just pulled out my HK t60 which has been in a box and connected to my old circa 1973 Kenwood KA 5700 and got it to play but loud humming noise. Maybe my old amp is shot so then connected t60 to my Onkyo AV receiver using a phono pre amp and still humming sound. When I play with the ground wire from the turntable I get differing humming but it doesn't go away.

Clean and tighten all connections from the cartridge to the RCA phono plugs.

Cheers,

Just recently had this issue with an older 70s Empire 2002 EE cartridge. It turned out to be a cracked solder on the head shell wiring.

So yes any imperfection in the wiring can cause a hum anywhere along the line.
