JVC QL-Y3F giving me headache

Postby perchman » 10 Jun 2012 21:22

Hi
Would appreciate any advice that may stop me from pulling out what little hair i have left
Brief outline of issues
Bought QL-Y3F with the following faults

Only up worked on the tonearm
Auto start didn't work, it only started the platter and lifted the arm
Auto stop lifted the arm but you then had to bounce the arm so the rest of the auto stop would proceed.

I have stripped the tonearm completely and rebuilt and now the things just gone nuts!
Up works but down only works whilst in the arm support, as soon as you move it to the disk it wont go down.
Auto start and auto stop now works but the arm travels so fast to the start or stop position that it bounces around laterally. Stripping the arm and rebuilding has obviously done something but im just not clued up enough with electronics to know what the problem is. Im not much good with a multimeter and found the service manual pretty poor.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Did you ever get any resolution of your tonearm issues?

I've had my QL-Y3f for a bit but has been sitting in the queue for me to look at. The tonearm goes up and down in auto mode but won't go down when you want to cue it manually, and it will move to the lead-in position (but not the correct spot) and returns to the tonearm rest and will do the repeat function ... but you have to nudge the tonearm slightly in the appropriate direction to get it moving.

I haven't gotten too far into this as of yet - just looking through the service manual so far ... I'm going to try some of the measurements and adjustments identified there (some of the instructions however are far from clear!).

The previous owner reported none of the functions worked for him, so at least I'm getting a bit more out of it so far.
