Small Footprint Turntable

Greetings all!

I'm very near to completing a fine system that I've been working on for years. Imagine my surprise when my Thorens TD-150 happened to be the exact same width (15.5") as the wooden cabinets for my H.H. Scott amp and tuner, which I restored years apart from each other. Pretty cool coincidence, eh? They all look great on the rack together. Well, I've already gotten this close to a very enjoyable vintage system, and now I'm at a crossroads.

The TD-150 has been tweaked a good bit with a Rega RB250 tonearm, solid flame maple armboard, dampening and so on. I love the compact dimensions, but before I sink even more time into this machine, I've been eyeing the legendary TD-124. They also seem to have a small footprint and of course are frustratingly collectible  . My question is, will I be at all likely to really be that much more impressed with the sonics of the 124 over a tastefully modified 150? Also, can anyone provide the plinth dimensions of the original 124?

I own both a TD-124 modified and a TD-150 modified and the TD-124 is by far better that the TD-150 in every way imaginable. I don't think there is a std. plinth dimension for the TD-124. There were so many variations built. When I bought my TD-124 motor unit I purchase a oversized birch ply plinth and mounted a Jelco 12" arm. This thing is humungus. I just recently purchesed a smaller birch ply plinth and I will mount a 9" Jelco arm on it with it's smaller foot print it looks alot better to my eyes and my wifes. The TD-124 would fit right in estheticaly with your other equipment to...

Ah, I couldn't have asked for a more helpful reply than one from someone who owns both! Thanks so much. I guess the 124 search will begin now in earnest.
