bearing clamp

Postby bluemike » 25 Feb 2012 21:46

Hi New to the forum

I have a modified Lenco l-75 in a wooden plinth the turntable has a custom bearing and weighs about 80 lbs

Does it make sense sonically to clamp the bearing from the top and bottom

I was thinking of creating some sort of sleeve that would go around the bottom
of the bearing and then perhaps shim it with some wood
looking at ebony as wood of choice
If this works then wanted to add some sort of drainage rod someting like the Technics sp-10 has incorporated

Any thoughts on the idea..it may be way out there :?

Headway i've made thus far is I have a sleeve machined that will go over the bearing essentially it's a flange and a collar
the problem i'm having is the sleeve will be very hard to insert over the bearing as the moter cutout doesn't leave me much room to fit the sleeve

I may need to cut into the plinth for it to fit !! something I don't really want to do

Once this hurdle is overcome the ideal would be to tie the sleeve to a wall in the cavity

Any thoughts on the process thus far

to be continued
I have pics but not sure how to post

See FAQ at top.

An interesting concept you have. We will be watching for reports on the effects.

Thanks Alec
back to the drawing board on the size of the sleeving
I need to make it smaller so it can fit - the concept remains the same
See pic of the moter cutout below as you can see I don't have much room to incorporate some sort of collar

I'm quite suprised at the lack of responses
I posted something similar in other forums and there is quite a bit of discussion

Tell me your opinions good bad or different

I think a piece of rubber stuck between the bearing and the side of the recess might tell you if this is worth going forward. Maybe a Pink Pearl pencil eraser would fit.
Nice bearing!

Thanks Alec the concept/idea definitely bears fruit a few Lenco enthusiasts have mentioned the clamp can make more of a difference then the custom bearing itself

That sounds like high praise to me

I do wish others would chime in here and give their thoughts
