I did a BIN for $99 earlier this week off the bay for a Rek-O-Kut CVS-12 Variable speed TT. To me that is a killer price for any ROK TT yet alone this one, which is seldom seen. The seller said they removed it from a console. It was hooked up to a Fisher Pre-amp & amp.
It arrived yesterday and I immediately started disassembling, cleaning & polishing it. Aside from being caked with dust and being quite tarnished, it is in excellent condition.

The lettering is 100% there, looks brand new. The paint is almost flawless also (there is only a couple of minor marks, only noticeable if up close. They might even come off with a little more pressure. I love scoring TT's that have been sitting in consoles for 60+ years...

The idler wheel on it is beautiful condition. Nice and heavy and almost all brass??? The rubber edge looks to have minimal wear.
The motor hanger had the typical type of mounts that you see on Russco's, QRK, Collins, etc... However, they were secured to it using little brads/rivets that you would see on a Gates CB500. I drilled those out in order to replace the mounts with new ones. They just needed one corner clipped off on two of them.
Here are the parts after cleaning and polishing.

The motor is the less-desirable General Industries D10 model. I took it apart to remove the old oil that appeared to have jelled up & polished it up. It has the pointed shaped capstan that looks like it is wood. I think it might be some type of resin plastic or something. I would love to get a steel one made.

The platter is beyond tarnished. Pretty rough looking.

The edge along the inside is at an angle to allow for the idler wheel to move up & down, pretty cool.

Tonight I started using some 400 grit wet sandpaper on the edge of the platter. I only did it a good once over before taking the pic. Lots more elbow grease and higher grit paper in order to get it sparkling.

This is my 7th Rek-O-Kut TT. I am now going to start an 'ROK Anonymous' program to help out other addicts like myself.
Still need to think about some plinth ideas...
