LXI series turntable?

Postby brightblack » 02 Sep 2009 01:00

Hello people- I found an LXI Series turntable today for $14.00, motor seems to be running quiet on both 33 & 45 (needs a belt)...has a straight arm, semi-automatic, looks fairly solid.....the platter & mat alone are worth
$14.00...the dampening seems good etc.

It's no Thorens by any means but it seems alright, has some kind of Audio-Technica cart...the stylus seems intact, anyone heard of these?

I think Sears made them, like I said, the platter & mat alone were worth the $14.00....If there's anyone out there with any info on these, please fill me in.

Sears sold them. I'm not sure who manufactured them, but I think it was Toshiba. Pretty reliable stuff, all in all, if not super fancy. Enjoy it. And if it becomes superfluous to your record-playing needs, you can use it to make a record cleaning machine.

Cheers,
Alec

Alec- What a brilliant idea!! I don't think the mat it came with is stock...I've never seen anything quite like it-some kinda foamy rubber with grooves in it, I'm using it on my Technics as I speak...I don't know if it's psychological or not but it seems to be bringin' some details in the mids & rounding out the lows beautifully!!

The platter is got a lot of mass also...I wish I had a belt to fit this thing, I just ordered one. I'll try to post some pics.

By the way Alec, It's people like you that makes Canada so cool!!!l Thanks a lot for all your info!!!

I worked for Sears for a lifetime. Sources included Sanyo, Toshiba, Hitachi and others down the line. There is a model number preceded by three digits and a decimal point. Those 3 digits denote the manufacturer and you can probably Google that information to get the maker. But regardless, the belt would certainly be available simply by taking measurements of the platter and knowing how far the capstan is from the platter drum. I have a Sanyo turntable, and it is quite solid and heavy much like the Sears labeled units.

I've found another list and posted on this forum, however, can't find it now, however this should help:

http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/.../4867d1 ... ing-mower- issue-sears-manufacturer-codes.pdf

With the original manufacturer, you can/should be able to find the belt you need.

Here's the other thread in case you've got a similar unit:

Good luck.

Alec,

I have an LXI Series turntable model 564.92953650.

The speed is slightly too fast, not like a chipmunk but like a female singing male vocal.

I read one of your posts that suggestede a speed adjustment but find nowhere to make this adjustment. How/where does this adjust at?

I have a LXI turntable I bought for $10 a year or two ago at a yard sale. I haven't used it much but it seems pretty decent. It's a direct drive model, and is stamped something like Factory CEC on the underside, which leads me to believe my particular model was made by CEC.
